Gruenal's Gambit, Episode II, Part Two [07:00 PM 02/05/03 GMT]
Lady Regent Alasalynn Rowanmantle (accompanied by three Purple Dragon Knights as bodyguards) has come to Lord Robert's Keep. The meeting was mostly negative in tone. Lady Alasalynn, referred to as Regent, was appointed to office by King Azoun of Cormyr, and thus has the support of the Purple Dragons and the backing of most of this area of Faerun. She is a fearsome leader, and not one we would soon wish to tamper with. As evidence, it seems the Regent had come to put Lord Robert out of office for his alleged mishandling of the Sembia Affair (as it's now being referred to in Cormyr and Tilverton). Though it was clearly not his fault, one cannot argue that it did happen during his watch. And, like any good military commander, he's responsible, and he said as much.
She did extend one hope to Lord Robert, however. She stated that the Cormanthyrian Elves, a long-time foe of Cormyrians due to their continued northern expansion into elvish territory, has made an offer of truce and alliance, if the Cormyrians were to come to their aid in a problem they're having. She did not go into much detail as to what the elves need, but stated that the elvish ambassador in Essembra can explain. The Lady Regent said that if Lord Robert can provide a team of problem-solvers to the elves, she will forgive Lord Robert's handling of the Sembia Affair, and allow him to remain in office (and to retain his granted lands on which his familial keep stands).
As Lord Robert has come to depend on us as his trusted agents, we are to go to Essembra to meet with the ambassador. He provided as with a map and has promised us all a parcel of land near his keep if we succeed. It sounds like a fine offer, and we will investigate. Lord Robert finished our meeting by saying that a war with the Cormanthyrian Elves may be averted if we succeed, and certainly his career as a noble is at stake.

Headed for Essembra, you've come across a pack of Gnolls, rooted deep into a small fishing community near the Pool of Yeven.
Beware of good intentions, however. As they say, the road to hell is paved with them.
