Kelvin was orphaned at very young age when his small settlement was wiped out in an orc attack. Gifted with fantastic fortitude, young Kelvin was the lone survivor of the attack despite being left for dead.
The young dwarf was adopted by Clan Battlehammer where he desperately wanted to join the militia of the clan. Unfortunately, Kelvin lacked the discipline and focus to follow the clans rigid, but highly effective combat techniques. Instead his unbelievable endurance and strength were put to use in the mines.
Indebted to the clan, he worked with brutal effeciency for many years. Time passed and Kelvin grew older, his hair turning from chestnut, to grey and eventually white. Although the strength of his youth had faded, "Ol' Kelvin" still had the stamina of a young dwarf. So it was that King Bruenor himself gave "Ol' Kelvin" the task of teaching the young Wulfgar to wield a hammer in the mines.
So remarkable was Wulfgar's progress that Bruenor officially allowed Kelvin to use the clan's name as his own, which he does with great pride.
After Bruenor left with his companions, Kelvin went into depression missing the younger king, and the barbarian Wulfgar. It was only recently that Ol' Kelvin had a dream in which Dumathoin, the keeper under the mountain, appeared and told the old dwarf that his time had come to emerge from the mountain and make his own mark on the world.
So it was that Kelvin made his way South and found himself in the city of Neverwinter when the call for adventurers went out.
