Images on the dim edges of recollection:
"I don't know how she does it, but if I turn around for a second, she's out of her cradle."
*****
"Sarah, where have you been? I've been worried sick!"
"I was here the whole time, Momma. You didn't see me 'cause I was a bug!"
*****
"Daddy, Daddy, I flew! I flew! Did you see me?"
"You want to fly, Sarah?" The tall man throws her into the air and catches her.
"No Daddy, I flew much much higher!"
*****
A little girl sitting on a rock. The corpses of two bandits lie nearby. The tall elf wears a puzzled expression. "At first I was scared, but then I remembered that dragons aren't afraid of people."
*****
"I can so turn into animals!"
"Can not!"
"Can too!"
"Show us then!"
The little girl scrunches up her face in intense concentration. She remains a little girl.
"Ha-ha! I knew you you couldn't! Silly Sarah. Silly Milley!"
The other children join in taunting, "Silly Milley! Silly Milley!"
The little girl bursts into tears and runs away.

"We can't let her keep it. Do you know how big those things get? How much it will eat? It will scare the guests. It might eat the guests!"
"Look at her though. She hasn't smiled like that in ages. She's hardly eaten for a month, and you know how she just mopes around. Her 'Baby' is the only thing she's shown any interest in at all. We have to let her keep it for a while."
"If she grows attached, we'll never get rid of it."
"Maybe when it's older it will run off to the forest."
