As a player, I lean heavily towards role playing. Beating goblins to a pulp and dodging inventive ways of causing TPKs might serve as a decent diversion, but it's not likely to hold my interest for very long. I love the chance to actually get creative while playing - to try and get into my character's head.
That's not to say I don't enjoy some good combat, but combat isn't interesting to me if it's without context, atmosphere and/or tactical challenge. So at the end of the day, I wouldn't play in a campaign consisting purely out of combat, while it wouldn't even occur to me to complain about one that consists purely out of conversation.
