[UPDATE: NEW SCHEDULE We settled on a schedule finally: Every monday, 8 pm to midnight, GMT +1 (Amsterdam, Berlin). Group is currently full with 6 regulars] Greetings, I hope I don't trespass too far on the intention of this board with the following. I am trying to rally a group of avid RPers to play through DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online). The game is F2P and has nice touches to it. Unfortunately RP is next to non-existent there. The only way to get a little RP fix and thoughtful gameplay there seems to be with a regular static group, which I am trying to rally right now to play once or max twice a week. If anyone wants to hear about details, I heartily invite you to take a look at a little forums I set up for that purpose: General link to the boards: http://fellowshipofthechickenwing.freeforums.org Intro Post and "About": http://fellowshipofthechickenwing.freeforums.org/welcome-and-what-is-this-t5.html I hope none of the hosts here take offense at this little endeavour of mine. I just never found any online community even remotely comparable to NWN, so I try my luck here. If you feel this is inappropriate on these boards here, I understand and won't take any offense if this post is deleted. Cheers, S_Cat

Why not just try to get a NWN game together? That's what this site is for, after all.

We've had such OT posting in the past and don't have a problem with it myself, as there are some NWC regulars interested in DDO.

DDO really isn't geared towards RP in my experience (admittedly limited in nature). When I figured that out, it was a quick exit for me. Is there something working against you trying to establish a NWN/NWN2 ongoing game here? Not that you have to explain yourself to anyone, but I think there's some curiosity concerning whether or not you (and anyone you play with) can be "brought back into the fold" as it were. Regardless, best of luck on getting your game together. When you get a group established into a cohesive play style, it's pure gold.

SC: I hear where you're coming from. I think many of us are lost with the aging of NWN1 and no viable alternatives. I thought about your DDO plan but I don't think I'd get much out of the experience without a DM involved. Good luck with your search. Moss Troll

I couldn't handle the "click for each swing" arcade style combat on DDO, but good luck on getting an rp group together. Have you tried the DDO boards?

| NWN2 is actually well on its way to being viable IMO.

Cheers, cats! (Can't seem to get the quote to work): NWN DM wrote: Not that you have to explain yourself to anyone, but I think there's some curiosity concerning whether or not you (and anyone you play with) can be "brought back into the fold" as it were. Regardless, best of luck on getting your game together. When you get a group established into a cohesive play style, it's pure gold. I am not sure about getting back into the fold. Game-Play wise NWN (1) is unmatched IMHO, in regards to creativity and the roleplay I have witnessed. Graphics- and mechanic-wise it is just getting plain old and painful as Moss Troll stated, and can be hard for those that did the mistake to get spoiled in those regards by newer games. Doh.. but the RP and gamestyle was so great. If I'd see a promising PW up on the horizon I'd be more than happy to join. The last I was active on as builder and DM never really took off, mostly due to lack of scripting- and team-power I'd like to think. So many visions, so many great ideas.. so little time and such a small team. /ramble Back on topic (or near to the topic, at least) : Dedicated group in DDO vs dedicated group in NWN: From what I remember way back, when I looked here, most groups were well established and way into their history - at least those that looked high-quality... and many of the newly forming ones were either not looking too attractive or just ads for PWs. Surely DDO adds exciting elements, like dynamic combat, spiffier graphics... but a lack of DM. I think DDO with a dedicated RP group could be fun (one time play through)... but of course it can never compare to a nice PW in NWN, or even a nice adventuring group with DM in NWN. Now you got me to miss NWN, and tempted to take a look at the scenery here again. In return I also tempt you: We have 3 as good as confirmed players now, with a 4th (RL-friend) showing up on the horizon, so I think we are good to go soon. Times have 95% boiled down to Mondays around 6:30 - 10:30 (GMT + 1). .. and I second the "Blech" and even the "Super Blech" on NWN 2! The problem is the character-artwork IMHO. NWN 1 pixelled avatars are graceful and beautiful when compared to the NWN 2 zombies! Everyone is a zombie in NWN 2! GM_ODA: I replied to your PM - but I have no clue whether it reached you (Can't find a "sent"-thing. Please poke me, if it didn't get to you.

If you want to see maxxed out graphics for NWN, I would download LordofWorms Arbor Falls PW off the vault. It's an action PW and he went nuts on text coloring (I mean NUTS) but it's also a gorgeous build. Nice just to walk around and look at.

I gave DDO a try last weekend. Personally I don't care for the Eberon campaign setting, and I don't care for MMO's. That said... this game doesn't suck. For a free game it's not bad (especially considering the price), and as long as you stay off the general chat channel you could do some RP. Personally I think I'll stick with NWN, but DDO is a much better choice for online RP than just about any other MMO I've tasted.

Guild Wars works well too. With a group, of course. It's also free to play.

I agree, Urk. While it is L337 and spammy, I think DDO offers a foundation that a regular RP group can have fun in. Regarding Guild Wars: It's also L337 and spammy, and I think less suited for RP, for the simple reason that the chat-length is so limited. You can type very few letters until the output box is full. Otherwise I love GW, most beautiful art I've ever seen in an MMORPG and very dynamic and interesting combat. I played it a lot, and finally accepted and got to love it for what it is: Nice artwork, very nice and fast-paced intelligent combat, very nice PvP features. Just live with forgetting anything in-character and any RP there. That said, I just wanna give a quick thanks to the hosts of this place for letting me abuse these forums to try and recruit a group for my DDO project. We are 6 now, have gone through the first session, and I think we have gathered a nice bunch of cats and will enjoy ourselves there. We haven't completely found our rhythm yet, but that is only to be expected. I'm very optimistic that it will turn out a nice weekly game and already looking forward to next monday. I think I can safely recommend similar projects there.
