Alright... I think the subject says it all, but I shall repeat. Is it possible to host two servers on one LAN? I know I can use different ports to direct traffic to the different servers... is it as easy as that? How does that effect port forwarding? Anyone out there tried this? I ask for the up coming CON so that I can host the Welcome Inn and a mod a couple of times. Otherwise, I have to build the mod onto the Welcome Inn, and I don't want to do that.

Theoretically you should be able to if both servers use different ports. As for portforwarding, each server will need its own ip address and you will need to forward both server ports to their respective servers. For example: Server1: 192.168.1.2:5121 PF: 5121 -> 192.168.1.2 Server2: 192.168.1.3:5122 PF: 5122 -> 192.168.1.2 There's a slight chance that one or both of the servers may not show up on Gamespy due to the need to forward ports for Gamespy, I believe. Direct connect should work, though, and an easy way to test that is to load up the servers and then try using the direct connect option to log into them.

yeah... i figured as much. it's been a while, so i'm rusty and not sure what needs to be sent where. aren't there specific ports for the DM client? also, it would take some tweaking of the player.ini file to set the proper ports for the client that logs in to look at the right ports... right? regardless, it should be possible. if so, then i'll move forward building something separate to run while still hosting the Welcome Inn on a diff server.

The dm client uses the same port the player and server clients use, so you should be fine there. You shouldn't need to tweak the player.ini file, but you will need to change the default port the servers use before you load up your modules. The standalone server program should have a port area where you can change it, I don't think it will let you after you load a module though. I would still test it first, DB, to make sure your forwarding is setup properly.

Right. The port information is stored in the nwn.ini file for the stand-alone server program.

Did you: 1. Setup each computer with its own unique static ip address? 2. Forward port 5121 to one static ip and port 5122 to the other? If they both point to the same computer, then it won't work.

The server configuration program should have a spot that allows you to type in the port it should use. Are they both set to 5121 or is one set to 5122? If both ports are forwarded to your computer's ip, then both should show up in Gamespy unless it's a Gamespy issue where it won't accept two servers from the same ip address. I don't know the inner workings of it, so I don't know if that's the issue or not.
