Help with serving and playing with 2 pcs, one IP
Return To Top

Hi

I have one static IP. There are 2 PCs behind a Dynalink RTA 1335 ADSL 4 port modem. Both PCs do not have any software firewall running (both Win2K SP4).

PC 1: Is to run nwnserver.exe.
PC 2: Is for DMing/playing the server game and for playing other servers.
(PC1 and PC2 are using 2 separate CD keys for NWN)

I have followed Dellasters instuctions for configuring the router modem:-
"Ports Forwarded to Computer B (ie: my PC 1) - Inbound and Outbound - UDP
* Port 5121
* Port 6500
* Port 27900
* Port 28900"
(posted here:http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/viewmessages/id/31425/guildid/0.htm)

PC 2 can see PC 1's server game in gamespy. Other people can join PC 1's game. But PC 2 gets a timeout on connection as a player and DM to PC 1. PC 2 can join and play other nwn servers listed on gamespy.

Anyone know how I can help PC 2? I am also not sure what port numbers to change in the nwnplayer.ini file.

Thanks

I think only one pc at a time can be port forwarded. But dont quote me on that.

thanks lionohume - i have read through that post many times in the several years i have been playing nwn (it always made me wonder how could they make the IP setup so complicated).

Dallasters quote in my post is from his post showing that he was able to host a server and DM it all from one IP and 2 computers.

So, it must be possible and I do not know how mine is different. Possibly someone with knowledge of client an player ports could help.

Change PC2's server port to 5122.

I wish I could remember where I saw it, but I distinctly remember reading once that if you want to use two PC's behind the same firewall (built into your router...) you need to change the default server port on one of them.

Thanks Urk. I tried changing PC2's server port (ie: game port i think) from 5121 tro 5122 but it still cannot connect to PC1.

the relevant ports extracted from my nwnplayer.ini are here :-
[Profile]
Client Port=5120
Direct Connect IP=192.168.1.2:5121
[Server Options]
Game Port=5122 (changed from 5121)

PC1's set up is identical (using game port 5121).

If Dallasters setup works, then all traffic on port 5121 is going to PC1. This suggests that PC2 cannot see any of that traffic. However, I have tried changing the Direct Connect IP port as well, but that didn't work.

The knowledge of how these ports work may have been lost when Bioware stepped back fron NWN. LOST IN THE MISTS OF TIME !

Again... I'm not certain of this, but I think your pc's need to be able to connect to gamespy. I don't think they connect directly to one another. Did you open port 5122 on your router?
