that is really odd; however, i think i have heard of something like this one other time. it was, unfortunately, traced back to the ISP. for whatever reason, the ISP didn't allow the kind of traffic needed to host games. sorry, but i don't really know of all the technical ends to it, so i can't give you more then that. i think you should next call your ISP help desk. you are doing what you need to do, so i can't see how it's anything else.

okay... alright, this may be a stupid question, but i have forgotten it sometimes and it's easily overlooked. So, forgive me if i insult your intelligence, but sometimes it pays to ask the stupid questions...

is the "post game to internet" box checked? if you are using the stand alone server, you cannot check this box directly. it can be set by going thru the steps of hosting a game from the player client. when you get to the page where you select the module to host, click the ADVANCED button in the lower right of that window. on the window that it takes you to, there is a check box for "post game to internet". make sure that is checked. at that point, either continue on with hosting your game or you can cancel out to the desktop to start the stand alone server. check to make sure the "post game to internet" box is checked.

if that's not it, then go with my previous post... call your ISP.

good luck.

I don’t know, but I would like to know if you are using the game menu or directly the nwserver.exe that is within your NWN folder? I have troubles when using the game to host a game, so I need to use the server. Also, I had a problem in the past where I was not able to host a game, because players didn’t see me on GameSpy, they tried to log in using buddy list; my router died for some reasons, and had to change it for a new one, since them I have no problems hosting. I guess something was wrong with my old router, either my configuration or the router itself. The best is as DB says, ask your internet provider.

I had something similar a few years back. One player, who could connect to other servers, for whatever reason couldn't connect to mine (and the other players could). It was a one-shot, so we chalked it up to an ISP issue after a bit of failed troubleshooting.

Really appreciate your guys help. Love our commuinity here.

Did check the box.

I have one pc. A loptop. My specs for everything more are list are viewable via my link above. I tried to launch game directly from game itself - play/multiplayer/ new internet game etc not thru any other program....

One of my players got hosting to work by turning his modem on and off. I'm goign to try that.

Some ISPs block ports to prevent bandwidth drain. If you can't get it to work, call your ISP and ask them if they block any ports. You need ports 5121-5130 open, I believe.

Are you using a router? And if so, what's the make and model #?

Check to make sure your firewall is accepting incoming connections for Gamespy and NWN: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/firewalling/routerindex.htm

I had my firewall turned off.

Like i said, people cant see me online even though i am. I can join other peoples games an only then do i appear online.

When it comes to hosting my game, for what ever reason it does not show up in the listing at all even though i am runing around in it. I also use the nwserver and try seeking it that way but no luck. I can direct connect to my own game but other people can not.

I find that there are a few other people as of late with the same problems can they have yet to figure out what the hell is wrong. this is really making me mad, i went out to by this game so i could do a online campaign with my old pen and papaer buddies and its not working.

I have the same router, and Comcast, and Lazybones was able to get me set up correctly. I'd try sending him a nice PM.

Alternatively just bypass the router and direct connect the cable modem to the host computer. Hassle to switch back and forth, I know, but may be easiest solution. You could even set up a couple of A/B switches to make the transitions easier.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do. My ISP masks my address so nothing can be done for me to host according to a number of network pro friends who've worked with me in the past to try to resolve the issue.

The only viable option in such cases is another isp, something I will likely pursue down the road.

dungeonserver has gone out of business from what I've heard. I did use them for awhile though and generally was pleased with their service.

The other option is to see if one of your players can, and is willing to, host for you. A number of DMs do that, as do I now.

You naturally have to trust such a person as they have full access to the module and servervault. If they are not reliable and fail to put up the mod on time, or not at all, that can be a real irritation for you and the rest.
