I guess I'll start off the NWN2 discussion here! I can probably get these answers on the Bioboards, but I've had some trouble sifting through the chaff. First off: 1) Can you run the Dedicated Server without installing NWN2 on a particular machine? I don't think there's a download yet... 2) Can you install NWN2 on a SECOND machine JUST for the purpose of running the Dedicated Server? Will the program be happy if you do this? 3) What router port settings are people using? There's a topic for this on the Bioboards, but I have to say - all I did was use the SAME settings as for NWN1. 4) Are other people able to use Player Pause on a dedicated server? Mine didn't seem to be enabled.

| When they get around to posting it, it should go here. Its been coming soon for a while now. http://nwn2.obsidian.net/support/patch_standalone.html

| Yes, but you have to have a Direct X compliant card in the server or the install isnt happy.

| Draytek 2600G - with no issues. All settings are the same as per NWN.

| o be honest I don't know. I always disable player pause because its too easy for someone to accidently hit space.

Oh..I should also mention that it will insist on installing Direct X (or updating it) and it performs a complete install. Personally I would have prefered to keep my server clean, so this is annoying. In addition it insists on keeping the server vault etc in the profile of the logged in user, and if you attempt to run it as a service it fails miserably. This means that someone has to be logged in whilst your server is running, which isn't really what you want in a multi user environment. They really do need a dedicated server option. There is a nice application in the install directory which purports to be a server monitor. It does give some basic information about the server, but I would be very hesitant using this to remotely manage your server. I'm thinking of renaming mine the server crasher since half the time I've managed to crash the server with it. Its much safer to Terminal service into the server and make changes there. Also, Enforce Legal Characters is incredibly buggy. It sometimes wont even allow starting characters into the server (it seems to particularly dislike Bards).

I have also found that enabling autosave in the dedicated server crashes me out of the game. I was running the player client on the same machine and connecting via LAN. NWN2 is very tolerant of alt-tabbing (at least on my machine), however, so it's not a big deal to exit and save periodically.

| Running Autosave on a seperate box seemed okay (atleast until the module died during a cutscene and the server which was still running autosaved, overwriting the last good autosave). I would however like Lazybones recommend frequent manual saves.

At last my foray into NWN2 hosting commences! Is it just me or is there simply not the same uptake of mods designed for NWN2 and NWN2 hosted games? I've seen some people simply copying files across to run a dedicated separate server using the server executable, I'll be trying this out.

My recommendation for hosting/playing is to run a separate server process using nwn2server.exe and then log in with the client. It's what I've been doing for our Sunday sessions. The same thing worked well in NWN, too.

It also works like NWN did - you can install the entire game, and then just run the dedicated server. Running the dedicated server does not prevent you from running the DM client or game client on another machine.

hmm setup the dedicated server on another PC, loaded mod fine. Can see it in gamespy and connect to it, even with password, then get time out not responding error. 5121 and 27900 ports forwarded. Can connect to it across lan tho.

NWN2 needs UDP ports 5120-5300 forwarded. You might also want to try 6500,6667,27900 & 28900 if the other ports don't work by themselves.
