...an unfortunate turn...

...Zanthyr ponders the most recent events: the elimination of the slaver, Sturm. "What sort of evil fouled his heart to turn to slavery" he thinks to himself. With the aid of one of the prisoners, a fellow Ranger, Zanthyr and his friends were able to rid the Temple of the slaver and many of his henchmen. Unfortunately, his new friend and compatriot, had fallen during battle. Another loss, that of Angus, an important ally, who left to seek his own personal gains, has put additional strain on the group. Zanthyr looks down at his new companion, Phalanx, with a stern and somewhat worried air! "We'll find Calidor, even if there is only one us left"! Zanthyr strides out of the Temple, vowing to return soon, and he and his companions continue the search for their dear friend...

Sitting near the fire, Sleet stirs a pot of stew - with a recently shot and skinned coney - courtesy of Glendyr and Zan.

Much had changed since his days at the academy, mentioning it today to Glendyr brought back memories - mostly good.

Stirring the pot once more Sleet breathes in with a small smile. "Better than my aunt could make it me thinks. And that be saying a lot!"

Glancing at Glendyr who was tearing into a loaf of bread with some cheese, Sleet raises an eyebrow. "So friend Glendyr, when I mentioned the name Banak, you seemed to recognize it. Perhaps some history of our ventures may be of help."

Sleet adjusts his pack and sits back puffing on his pipe, "We, Zanthyr and I learned our skills in an academy run by a warrior priest of Tempus by the name of Hawke. He has a son, Calidor by name who we became fast friends with and a close comrade. Late in our training, perchance I - we stumbled on a clandestine meeting of Banak a follower of the Beastmaster. He was an old comrade of Lord Hawke's, and a full member of the elite academy as well."
Sleet reaches forward to check on the stew and give it a stir and then continues. "The meeting we overheard told of some nefarious plans Banak was making. We were unsure what to do so brought the information to Lord Hawke. There was a falling out and Banak with some associates escaped. Needles to say the three of us became marked men. Lord Hawke arranged some transportation as well as magical means to deter detection such as a crystal ball or divination. We ventured out and started up the coast from Baldur's Gate. Amongst the various adventures we met our new comrade here Xequ'iir," the rogue smiles at his friend, "we stumbled upon some smuggling rackets which we put an end to as well as various slavery operations. During this time, Calidor was taken by the slavers as well. ALL it seems to be related to Banak."
Sleet smiles. "Needless to say, we are not high on his list of dear friends any longer. Also, we no longer have the protection against divination and such so must assume he and his cohorts are aware of us. We now quest to find our comrade Calidor and it seems stop the evil plans of the Beastmaster Banak."

OOC: please fill in any details I may have missed - this is from memory.

Father ...

My companions and I headed up into the Cloud Peak Mountains. Along the way we encountered a lone elf, a survivor of a slaver abduction, who goes by the name of Glendyr. After sharing a quick campfire dinner with him and hearing of his current plight, Glendyr has joined our ranks in order to achieve a common goal: the destruction of the current slaver operations in the area and the freeing of the unfortunate, downtrodden slaves. As well, Glendyr mentioned the name of Banak spoken of by the slavers, so we may as yet face off against this vilanous foe.

Our forays into the mountains for any slaver activity has yet to be proven fruitful. However, a fortress which may be the location of the active stockade has been found and is our current destination.

Until next we speak, Father...

Glendyr gratefully tore into the bread and cheese, but politely held up a hand at Sleet's offered stew. He chewed thoughtfully as he listened to the rogue's tale, nodding where appropriate to prod the other along.

"I am familiar with the works of the Fist and the Black Claw," he said finally. "I had recently heard news of deeds attributed to them that seemed out of character for that group. In spite of their sinister name, the Claw is well known for standing firm with the Flaming Fist on the side of law and order. Your tale does much to explain the basis for those rumors.

"How splintered is the Black Claw by this rift in their leadership, then? Do the majority stand with Hawke? Or has the disappearance of his son rendered him impotent in this matter? If Banak holds him, he is a valuable hostage indeed."

Now far down this train of thought, the elf absently turned the bread over in his hands as he went on. "And what of the influences weighing upon Banak, himself? No man can ascend to the position of leadership that Hawke has without being able to judge another. Surely Banak could not have hidden an evil nature from him for so long. Perhaps a fell influence has insinuated itself into him. The minds of men are oft prey to such dangers." He looked at his new companions with a raised eyebrow. "Present company excepted, of course," he finished with a small smile.

...a welcome surprise...

...Zanthyr breathes deep, inhaling the sweet, aromatic air of the valley's dew-laden greenery. The weariness of the journey, and the stress of eliminating the slavers from the temple of Mielikki and the search for their dear friend had taken it's toll. As his lungs expand, with every breath, he feels the burden slowly ebb away, to be replaced with a new vigor. "Ahh, now that's better", he remarks to himself. "Nothing like a return to ones' element to rejuvenate the soul"! The addition of a new friend, the elven warrior Glandyr, has been well received by Zanthyr and his companions. "It's good to have a new sword-arm with us" he remarks to Glandyr, as he offers him another piece of freshly cooked meat from the spit. "You are a welcome sight, especially after the unfortunate departure of our friend Angus. Come friend, let's eat and drink well, for our quest, I feel, is just beginning, and we will need all the strength the gods, and this land, can offer us"!

Standing on the summit of the small mount, Sleet pauses. "Beautiful country this is.. but dangerous."

Looking to Zan and Glendyr he smiles. Stalwart companions, together they would crush this slaver band and find Calidor.

"Well Gents," Sleet puffs on a pipe, "time we find this slaver compound. Aye?"

Still standing over the body of the sorceress, the elf nodded. "If this was a guard patrol, they will be missed," Glendyr stated. "We should find the compound with all speed. I believe I can lead us back in the way I came out."
