A Taste of Serendipity (a Firefly campaign)

(not sure if this goes here - it's third-person from a player's perspective, but I wanted to post a great Firefly campaign post by Jenniza - this chronicles the latest exploits of the crew of the Serendipity on Beaumonde, a world a lot like that in Blade Runner)

...Later Jinny and Clyde wandered into the merchant district and found
a shop selling "tech-toys". An odd thing happened while Clyde was
examining the holo-display... it began to display an image of a
dragon and was trying to deliver a message to Clyde. Through quick-
thinking, Clyde negotiated a deal with the shopkeeper to give them
10 minutes in the store alone with the hologram. After the
shopkeeper left, the communication through the dragon began...

Basically, the assignment seemed simple enough... acquire a series
9000 robot arm from a local Cley Newman, instead of going to
Osiris. Two methods of acquiring data later, the crew guessed that
the right Cley Newman was the one that resided at Saint Lucy's
Hostal until things got too hot for him with Interpol that he turned
to the twin "fixers" at the Maidenhead.

When the crew followed the trail there, they received their next
clue of a man named Weston that would know where to find Cley...
their investigation at the Maidenhead was interrupted by bounty
hunters from Nu Wan, a former client that the crew didn't like.

Nu Wan had once tried to extort the crew into delivering some slaves
for him instead of turning them into the authorities for an alleged
*coughs* hovercar theft. The crew in turn freed the slaves and in
return, Nu Wan sent bounty hunters after Cy Law on Beaumonde.

The Twins seemed to aid us in our escape, and the term "seemed to"
is used loosely. It also seemed that they turned on the crew and
were not to be trusted totally regarding the bounty hunters. One
narrow escape later and the crew got the drop on the bounty hunters
and made them leave.

Next in pursuing the lead to find Weston, there was a bit of trouble
in the sewers, so the crew called for backup from the rest; but, it
only ended with Clyde's capture and a failed rescue. Now there was
a 10,000 platinum ransom to be paid for Clyde's safe return; but,
the more dominant crew members at the time wouldn't let Jinny
deliver the ransom by herself or even at all. The ransomers proved
they weren't to be trusted... Clyde's weak message only reinforced
the urgency.

Just prior to a second rescue attempt, Clyde sent extensive Blue Sun
financial records from Cley Newman to Jinny and said not to come for
him; but, that he loved her. The crew wouldn't give up at this
point, and a long room by room gun battle sweep of the sewers by Cy,
Dwight and Karen with Jinny in tow found Cley and a weak Clyde now
reunited with Jinny. The love she openly spoke of in the shop to
the others was evident by this point as the two kissed and she
nursed him back to health.

--- snippets from game ---
Clyde Whittier: *Short range comm:* *whispers* Anyone? Can you
hear me? Can you hear me? Never mind. If you can hear me... you
have to get the data in Cley's possession. I'm going to try to
transmit, but I don't know if it will work. If you receive it
intact, take it and leave me. I'm fine. Don't come for me.
[despite concerns and objections]
Jinny Souderton: *readies her medium range communicator and hand
computer to receive*
Clyde Whittier: *Short range comm:* *whispers* Have to sign off.
Jinny, I love you.
Cy Law: *Short range comm:* Never mind the job, Clyde. We're coming
to get you. Just sit tight.
Cy Law: So, how do we do this?
Jinny Souderton: *Short range comm:* *whispers* ready to receive

*A short time later, Jinny's PDA chimes*

Jinny Souderton: *checks the PDA*
PDA: *incoming data stream from unknown source.*
PDA: *ascii data, though... Jinny can easily translate into
fields...looks like database info*
Jinny Souderton: *monitors it, if it doesn't slow down the stream*
PDA: *seems to be some sort of financial record*
PDA: *it's BLUE SUN data - appears to be blue sun financial
records. Very extensive. *
Cy Law: Jinny - put that PDA away - we have work to do.
Karen Rion: It might have something helpful.
Jinny Souderton: *gives her hand computer with download when
completed to Dwight*
Dwight Gambol: Thanks Jinny
Jinny Souderton: *whispers to Dwight* Return it, if I make it back
*smiles*
---------------------------------------------------

After Jinny nurses Clyde back to health, and Cy, Dwight and Karen
finish discussing the robot parts with Cley, Jinny and Clyde work
together to pour over the very extensive Blue Sun financial records
with any assistance that Cley Newman can provide. The results are
very interesting.
