Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher Sunday RP Thread
Return To Top

BACKGROUND
----------
You are summoned to the Temple of Lathander in Scornubel by Josura Hlammel, the high priestess.
She gathers you together and makes a short speech:
"Welcome friends! For many years, I have watched you grow and come into adulthood. I remember
tending your scrapes and bruises, offering advice, and keeping you out of trouble as best I could.
Now I hear your desire to see to world has grown strong, and you soon hope to be off to seek
your fortune. If you could put you plans on hold for a few days, I would beg a favor from you.

In recent weeks, the Zhentarim activity in the area has increased to the point where a patrol
of Red Shields has been dispatched for the Trielta Hills. Captain Preth leads the group.
He is a fine commander, and I normally would have full faith in his abilities.

As a member of this temple, I sometimes receive information from divine sources. It has been
made known to me that this recent Zhent excursion may have more sinister implications.
Because of this, I ask that you carry a message to Captain Preth. His men are in grave danger,
and this information is vital to the safety of the Sword Coast.

As a cleric of Lathander, I often commune with those of the higher planes. Last night, I dreamt
I hovered above the ground, seeing Captain Preth far below. His men fought the Zhent troops, as
if dark hands maneuvered tiny chess pieces. The same player moved both sides, and won no matter
the outcome. It was a troubling dream, and I composed this letter as soon as I awoke.

The captain is on the northern edge of the Trielta Hills. If you head towards Trielta and turn
east, you'll find the Eureka Inn. From there, a trail heads north through the hills and you will
find Preth stationed at the edge of the Forest of Wyrms.

My friends, you might want to head to Scornubal's city center to pick up supplies before you go.
The Walk holds a number of shops that could prepare you for your journey. Also, seek out Thistle,
a halfling trader who is heading along the Trade Way towards Trielta. You may travel with him.

Here is the letter. May Lathander keep you safe."

It is not the trip to the Trielta Hills that concerns you, but rather what you will find when you
get there. Eureka is no more than an inn and a few buildings, as not many stayed after the mines
played out. You might be able to resupply there, but the difficulty is reaching Captain Preth on
the other side of the hills.

If the Zhent have taken the pass, you could be in for a tough fight. Alternatively, there may
be a way to slip by the troops unnoticed.

No matter your method, you must find a way to Captain Preth. As every day passes, lives are lost
in a senseless battle. You must find a way to reach him and discover the hand that pulls the
strings of the Red Shields and the Zhentarim.

Vicryl Dexon, acolyte of Lathander

Vicryl is of stocky build, with dark skin and dreadlocks that he is very proud of.
He was orphaned as a young child and never knew his parents.

He survived on the streets with the help of other orphaned children and the charity of the temple of Lathander.
He was called Vicryl by his friends (he did not know his name)
His child and teenage friends took many paths, but Vicryl became fascinated by the Elysian God Lathander and took the path of the Moringlord.
As an Acolyte, he was recently given the surname "Dexon" by the priests which means "defender" in an ancient language.
He is ready to defend the faith against undead and other evil scourges.

Some of his recent proselytizing has annoyed some of his old friends from the street, but they remain loyal.

Nephiyl Halfblood

Standing 6'8" and weighing 345lbs. Rather cheery for a half orc. As a babe he was left on the doorstep to a temple of Lathander. Raised by the priests, who tried to instill in him the idea of goodness, and distance him from the savageness of his orc ancestry. He never liked the idea of learning the preisthood and instead learned from the gaurds.Hoping to become a member of the Order of Aster. Although the priests also inlisted some bards to help teach him, he found that fighting was far easier to learn.
Not quite as dumb as others of his kind, he is still not the sharpest sword in the armory.
He grew up with Vicryl Dexon,r But took a different path. And now looks at Vicryl as a little brother.

The Story thus far:

You have made friends and enemies. You have found henchmen(and ladies) to help you along the way. You have fought goblins and orcs(much to Nephiyl's delight)and undead. (provoking Vicryl Dexon to fight in the name of his god Lathander, and much purging was done)and assorted evil doers apperantly worshippers of Cyric.
You delivered the letter only to find out that you now had more work to do! Now you are under a temple for Cyric which was a temple for Jergal. What is going on? Where will this lead? How will it end? Why did they need all those bodies? Are they making an undead army? Will Vicryl be able to keep his sanity in the midst of this evil? Will Nephiyl be quite long enough to sneak up on the next group of enemies? Will Wyrloken Ap Celydon (Loki)care about the others motivations? Or is just in it for the Bloodletting or to meet new ladies?
All these questions you wonder about. Or is it just that you want an end to it all so you can hit the nearest seeler of mead and spend some gold on the women there?
So you continue on, watching the women as they walk, listening to the whinning wanna be paladin, looking for the next zombie or orc to kill. Always hoping you will work together to overcome all obsticles set before you to bring justice to those behind this evil conspiracy!

To see bodies so used *is* a calling... a calling for my blade to silence their vile tongues! Your Morninglord shines a path, but Tempos will give us the strength to crush our enemies!

Dreams

Advancing deeper into the darkness, the screams of his companions echo louder from all directions. Loki roars out in rage and despair as he plunges blindly on, both his pyric blade and his sorcerous powers useless here.
A light appears in the distance, dim yet steady. Loki, already exhausted and broken, prays to Tempos for strength.. and the last ounce of strength of the Uthgart blood inside of him, even now, moves his body forward.
The light does not seem far, yet it takes Loki torturous hours to reach it. Finally, slipping from conciousness, the proud warrior crawls into the light. Before him is a simple stone, no bigger than a ghost rothe calf, protruding from the ground. There are words chiseled into the stone. With one last effort, Loki reads what is written:
Wyrloken Ap Celyddon-
Warrior of the Uthgart
Sorceror of Selune
Fallen Companion, **** DR

He rolls over in despair, letting the darkness envelope him. But the darkness does not close this time. A dark, cold shadow looms over Loki's failing body. As it moves closer, Loki dimly makes out his young friend Nooble. But Nooble's features are torn by blades and bloated by sea water. "You killed me Loki. You killed us all!"
Loki awakens in the dismal maze in which he and his companions have been imprisoned in. For the first time since he was a boy in Beorunna's Well he finds tears in his eyes... and fear in his heart. He looks over at Neph snoring in his sleep, then at Vic leaning against the wall and keeping vigil. Loki wonders if he should tell his companions about the persisting dreams, for they themselves seem to have stopped having them, or at least they don't talk about them anymore. As Vic looks over, he decides to keep them to himself, for there is no need to worry his companions. They need him to be strong. They need the proud Uthgart warrior and his strange sorcerous powers. He forces a grin, then relieves Vic of his watch. Firmly, he stares into the darkness of their prison.

After the thrilling ride on the gold dragons and the news that Arena and the others were still alive, Nephiyl could not contain his exitement. He could not wait to see Arena again. He was sure that Vic felt the same about his lady, and he wondered about Loki.
He was staring to fall in love, but she was killed in battle. A battle we won, but only because she had givin her life to break the spell that held them immobile. Nephiyl could only tak solice in the fact that he would soon see Arena and hoped that Loki would be able to move on someday and find another love.
And he hoped it was soon, he thought that Loki might be suffering from some, (ah what was the term?) Pent up frustration? Knowing that the two of us would go to our tents with our women while he was stuck talking to nooble. Before that idea was a source for amusement, but not after recent events.

Loki barks out orders to his elven troops to make camp. After securing the campsite, he tells them they've earned a rest, volunteering himself the first watch of the night.
A broken tree from Neph's catapult assault serves as a perfect watchplace, hiding the watcher from what eyes might be outside the camp... and those within it.
The watch begins simply enough, staring out into the darkness beyond the firelight, listening to the breeze in the treetops, the gentle nighttime calls of wildlife, and the occasional sounds of resting elves and companions in the camp. But the serenity of the night brings no peace to Loki. Thoughts of the past few weeks well up unbidden as they invariably do every night. Thoughts of betrayal, dreamland battles, vile magic... and loss.
-My thoughts always turn to you, Idona. There was so little time... too little to love you the way I do. Yet it is there, this burning within my chest I cannot put out. Even now, I see clearly your fiery red hair, your green eyes staring back me as you die in my arms... greener than the Rauvin Vale in Mirtul, when the snows peal away and reveal fresh dawn of a new year, when the mountain flowers bloom near fast running brooks from the ice-retreat. Your voice still whispers in my ear, those last words you spoke to me...-
Loki's thoughts fade away at the sound of light footsteps. He wipes the single tear from his cheek before the elf's approach. "Sir, I've come to take watch." The musical voice reminds Loki of his first travelling companion Anoikis, a world away and what seems a lifetime ago. The vestige of a grin appears on his face at the memory, and he nods to his soldier.
-Such an easier time then... the only demons I had to face were at the tip of my sword.-

Vicryl stirred

as he slept under the stars.
His woman, Teira, in this arms.
Dreams came upon him again. But this time it was not the Dreamer invading his thoughts, no- the presence was much more peaceful.

Suddenly, a blinding light came over him. The light was everywhere and penetrated his very soul. It was warm and radiant; and although it should have hurt his eyes, it did not.

Vicryl began to make out a figure in the light... An enormous man in plate armor holding a glowing mace.

Vicryl prostrated himself and began to pray, for he knew it was the moringlord Lathander himself..

"A new day, a new vow. I face the east. I greet the morn with hope, optimism, and pray for destruction of those who are dead but live"

"Arise, Dawnbringer," Lathander said in a booming voice.
Vicryl obeyed but averted his eyes solemnly.

"You have served me well, Dexon. I have watched your progress with great interest, although I must say your choice of weapons is a bit unusual," With that Lathander let out a booming, good natured laugh.

"Forgive me, almighty," said Vicryl

"Nevermind that, we have more pressing issues to discuss. Vicryl Dexon, I am calling you home. I am aware of earthly love and friendships that you have made, but you are needed in Elysium. You will have pain leaving these loved ones, I know; but I will see to it that this woman of your's is well taken care of. The Uthgardt comrade you walk with will absorb the grief she will feel. And he will treat her well, I promise. You will be saddened, I'm sure, but it will be short-lived, as you will find warmth and pleasure in Elysium," Another booming laugh

"The forces of Cyric and Talos have begun interplanar raids on our kingdom. They send their despicable undead to our gates. YOur skill against the undead is needed. You will command a regimen of my followers in the war. There is much to discuss, but it will wait. Your time to come home will be soon. Your friends will not be without my presence, however. The Paladin Nooble has shown some promise, albeit clumsily. He will need further guidance. There is a priestess of mine who will meet up with your group in the future..but that is not your concern."

Vicryl was overcome. Was this another of the Dreamer's tricks, or just a dream?

"NEITHER!," boomed Lathander, then he smiled "Do you accept this fate, Vicryl Dexon?"

Vicryl again prostrated himself before his God and called out, clear and certain "YES!"

Who knew that your blood heritage was that as "a tainted one"? And what where the odds of three meeting in what we used to think of as our world? Who is playing what game? Is the dreamer still alive?

couldnt play the creature game well at all, so he went looking around. He did some gatediving

Then he went and joined a faction. One he now realizes that his wife and companions would not approve of. He did things he is now ashamed of. Now he hopes this mistake would not come back and haunt him.
